STM professionals voted by a margin of 91 per cent in favor of a strike mandate last night, the union said in a press release.
About 800 workers represented by the Syndicat des employées et employés professionnels-les et de bureau, section locale 610 (SEPB-610), said a strike date will be set in the future when it’s “appropriate” but could last up to 10 days.
The union said commuters will not feel the impact of such an action, but that other administrative actions would be impacted.
“Our members are fed up with the STM’s insistence on slashing its internal expertise,” Benoit Tessier, the union’s vice president said.
“This is at the heart of the negotiations: the STM wants to undermine our members’ job security. It wants to have free rein to lay us off at will. We believe this is contrary to the interests of taxpayers and public transit users,” Tessier added.
