“Vincent Marissal Exits Québec Solidaire with a Bang, Signaling Deep Rifts within Party”

Vincent Marissal, the Member of the National Assembly for Rosemont, made a surprising announcement on Saturday. Marissal revealed that he was parting ways with the Québec solidaire caucus and would now serve as an independent MNA until the upcoming election.

In a sudden press briefing at his constituency office, Marissal explained his decision, stating that he had been contemplating this move for a few days. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the caucus’s handling of recent events, particularly citing their stance during the STM strikes as a pivotal factor in his departure.

Marissal criticized Québec solidaire for prioritizing support for unions over the well-being of the population, leading him to believe they were on the “wrong side of history.” Feeling disconnected from the party’s base and governance, Marissal felt compelled to take a different path in his political career.

Shortly before Marissal’s announcement, Québec solidaire revealed that they had unanimously voted to suspend him, alleging secret negotiations with the Parti Québécois for a potential candidacy switch in the 2026 election. Marissal did not deny these discussions but emphasized that no decisions had been made at the time.

Reflecting on his tenure since being elected in 2018, Marissal expressed a desire to engage in constructive politics once again. Despite his success in past elections, he felt the need to part ways with his former party to pursue a different approach to governance.
