Montreal Transit Workers Union Announces Overtime Strike, Potential Service Disruptions Loom
Montreal’s transportation system may face disruptions soon as the union representing Société de transport de Montréal (STM) maintenance workers has declared a refusal to work overtime from December 9 to January 11, 2026. While paratransit operations will remain unaffected, the strike is expected to result in reduced service availability with fewer vehicles in operation, according to a statement posted on the agency’s website.
Additionally, an upcoming hearing at the Administrative Labour Tribunal will determine the essential services that STM must uphold during the strike. Further updates will be provided following the tribunal’s ruling.
