A brand-new condominium in Durham Region faces a major challenge as it deals with extensive water damage caused by the deliberate activation of emergency fire hoses within the building, as reported by the Durham Regional Police Service.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday when fire crews responded to a call at the 92-unit complex situated in the Courtice area at 1607 Regional Highway 2. Upon their arrival, firefighters discovered that the water valves on the emergency hoses had been purposely opened by an unknown individual, leading to a significant flood and subsequent damage throughout the newly constructed property.
Fortunately, the building was unoccupied during the incident, but the aftermath of the flooding left a considerable impact on the structure.
Authorities revealed that before emergency crews arrived, a male suspect with a medium-to-heavy build, dressed entirely in black, was spotted leaving the vicinity. The police have encouraged anyone with information or eyewitness accounts related to the event to come forward to assist in the investigation.
