The Military Police Complaints Commission has revealed that an investigation into a sexual assault accusation against former army officer Dany Fortin was marred by investigative bias and a lack of oversight. The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service’s handling of the case dating back to 1988 was criticized for tunnel vision and failure to adhere to core investigative standards. Despite Fortin’s claims of undue pressure, the commission found no evidence to support his assertions. Although acquitted of one count of sexual assault in a civilian court in December 2022, Fortin retired in 2023 after settling a lawsuit with the military and government officials.
