PSPP Pushes for Swift Early Elections to Tackle Key Issues Alongside François Legault

The leader of the Parti Québécois, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, has extended a strong invitation to Premier François Legault to consider the possibility of holding early elections in the spring. Plamondon emphasized the benefits of settling matters promptly.

During a press conference for the party’s end-of-session review on Friday, Plamondon expressed readiness for early elections. He suggested that if the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) continued to promote division and unnecessary polarization without meaningful reflection on public policies, perhaps it was time to take the debate directly to the people of Quebec.

Plamondon’s call for early elections was in response to Legault’s recent statement about remaining in office after “going for a walk in the snow.” In a sharp retort, Legault labeled the PQ leader as “a little bit arrogant” for proposing early elections based on poll standings rather than following the fixed election date law.

Typically scheduled for October 2026, the next provincial elections could see a shift in fortunes. Recent polling data from Qc125 indicates that the Parti Québécois is leading in voting intentions, while the Coalition Avenir Québec might face significant challenges if elections were held today.
