Toronto officials have successfully put out a fire that broke out in the walls of two adjacent apartment buildings in Thorncliffe Park.
The fire, which reached five alarms, started on Nov. 27 at 11 Thorncliffe Park, before spreading to the nearby 21 Overlea Blvd. Due to high levels of carbon monoxide, occupants from both buildings were evacuated for safety.
Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessop and Toronto’s interim chief building official, Kamal Gogna, stated on Monday evening that the firefighting operations have been completed at both locations. They mentioned that the next step involves property management companies collaborating with engineers to conduct thorough assessments of the buildings.
Residents of the affected buildings will be notified by their property managers regarding the following procedures. The return to occupancy will be organized in stages by the management firms.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. An update on the situation is expected to be provided by Toronto Fire Services and city officials on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
