“Flood Alert Lifted on North Shore; Chilliwack River Still a Rising Threat”

As more rain is predicted, concerns over potential flooding persist in British Columbia.

A flood warning continues for the sensitive Chilliwack River, while the Fraser Valley, Sea-to-Sky corridor, and Vancouver Island are on alert for potential floods.

Despite the ongoing risks, there are some positive developments.

The Lillooet River near Pemberton has been downgraded to a high streamflow advisory, and the North Shore mountains flood watch has been lifted.

Over the weekend, the City of Abbotsford revised evacuation orders for 25 properties in the Sumas Prairie, but evacuation orders are still in place for 11 properties, with 474 under evacuation alert.

The city emphasized the importance of conducting damage assessments on homes and other structures impacted by the floods before residents return.

In addition, wind and rainfall warnings are still in effect for Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island, with Environment Canada forecasting up to 60 mm of rain and a drop in temperatures.

Highway 3 remains closed, and a travel advisory is in place for portions of Highway 1.
