“Snowstorm Paralyzes Line 6 Finch West LRT: Switch Malfunctions Halt Service”

A snow system moving into the Toronto area on Friday morning caused disruptions in TTC service along Line 6 Finch West due to LRT track switch issues.

Early alerts on Friday morning informed commuters of the closure of Line 6 Finch West between Finch West and Driftwood stations due to debris on the tracks, leading to the deployment of shuttle buses.

As the morning progressed, further updates revealed that debris on the tracks forced a pause in service between Driftwood and Humber College stations, with reports of blocked tracks and communication issues in various sections.

Although there was a brief resumption in service around 9:40 a.m., subsequent updates highlighted ongoing switch issues affecting the line.

In response to inquiries, the TTC confirmed multiple switch issues on Line 6 Finch West, resulting in the deployment of 20 shuttle buses to replace train services. Metrolinx and its contracted maintainers have been informed of the situation.

Since its opening to the public on Dec. 7, Line 6 has experienced occasional disruptions leading to temporary service suspensions. The latest delays coincide with concerns about trip times along the 18-stop line, prompting Toronto city council to explore ways to improve service efficiency.
