Vancouver Defies National Trend with Rising Gas Prices

Motorists in Metro Vancouver may notice a slight uptick in gas prices this week, but don’t fret just yet as experts believe a significant spike is unlikely in the near future.

According to a recent survey by GasBuddy.com covering 427 gas stations in the region, the average price per litre has edged up by 1.4 cents over the past week.

However, GasBuddy.com analysts point out that Metro Vancouver stands out from the national trend, as the average gas price across Canada actually decreased by 0.7 cents per litre in the same period.

Head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.com, Patrick De Haan, highlights that the national average has been on a downward trend for the past five consecutive weeks. This trend is attributed to refineries operating at high capacity and gasoline stockpiles increasing. De Haan suggests that while prices may stabilize in the coming weeks, they are likely to start climbing again as spring approaches.

Interestingly, the average gas price in Abbotsford even saw a notable drop of 5.4 cents, now standing at 120.65 cents per litre.

Meanwhile, in Calgary, one gas station is offering regular gas at a bargain price of just under a dollar per litre, specifically 99.9 cents.

As of Monday morning, some gas stations in Vancouver were displaying prices as high as $1.32 per litre, signaling a potential continued increase in the area.
