Montreal Canadiens secure a thrilling 4-3 victory over Dallas Stars in overtime, with defenseman Lane Hutson clinching the winning goal just 1:20 before the end of the game. Hutson, the previous season’s Calder Trophy recipient, celebrated his first OT goal among his career 13 goals.
Brendan Gallagher, Oliver Kapanen, and Juraj Slafkovsky also contributed goals for the Canadiens, who displayed impressive form during their recent stretch of seven consecutive road games, finishing with a record of 4-1-2. Despite a setback in their previous game against St. Louis, where they lost 2-0, Montreal bounced back with this exciting overtime win.
Samuel Montembeault stood tall in goal for the Canadiens, making 24 saves to secure his second consecutive victory since his recall from the minors. On the opposing side, Wyatt Johnston netted two goals, while Mavrik Bourque added another for the struggling Stars, who have now suffered five consecutive defeats, marking their longest losing streak of the season.
With this win, the Canadiens improved their overtime record to 7-2 for the season, contrasting with the Stars’ 1-5 overtime performance. Montreal’s Philip Danault played a pivotal role in Hutson’s winning goal, assisting in the crucial play.
Looking ahead, the Canadiens will host Calgary in their upcoming game, kicking off a four-game homestand, while the Stars will embark on a challenging six-game road trip, starting with a match against Carolina.
