“Circular Materials CEO Vows Swift Action to Tackle Toronto’s Recycling Woes”

The organization now responsible for managing recycling in the Greater Toronto Area is addressing challenges with collections following the recent transition. Circular Materials, a national non-profit, has taken over the coordination of the recycling program, with Green For Life managing curbside collections. This shift, mandated by the Ontario government, has led to delays in some areas, such as midtown Toronto, where residents have experienced prolonged waiting times for pick-ups.

Allen Langdon, the CEO of Circular Materials, acknowledged the issues and emphasized the importance of resolving them promptly. He explained that a special recycling collection was arranged to accommodate the New Year’s Day program launch, causing disruptions in the initial phase. Despite the setbacks, Langdon expressed optimism that regular collection schedules would improve efficiency moving forward.

One challenge faced during this transition was the unavailability of the Circular Materials call center over the weekend, hindering communication with affected residents. Langdon reassured the public that efforts were being made to address the delays and appreciate the community’s patience during this period of adjustment.

Toronto–St. Paul’s Coun. Josh Matlow criticized the missed recycling collections as “unacceptable” and raised concerns about the privatization of the service affecting accountability. Matlow highlighted the importance of reliable recycling services for residents and emphasized the need for consistent and efficient collection.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded to early issues with the new system, emphasizing the government’s commitment to recycling initiatives and the willingness to make necessary changes for improvement. This sentiment was echoed by Langdon, who emphasized the priority of timely and effective recycling pick-ups.
