Peel Region Police Warn Public About Released High-Risk Offender
Peel Region Police have issued a public safety warning after the recent release of a “high-risk” offender into the community.
74-year-old Gil DaSilva, who completed a sentence for manslaughter, was released on October 9. He was arrested in March 2017 for the murder of his son’s girlfriend, Cheryl McVarish, in Mississauga.
According to authorities, DaSilva has a long history of violent offenses. Peel Regional Police’s Offender Management Unit has flagged him as posing a significant risk to public safety, especially concerning women, with a high likelihood of re-offending or violating his conditions.
To ensure public safety, police will closely monitor DaSilva’s activities and ensure he adheres to his court-ordered restrictions. While his intended residence in the region was not disclosed, authorities urge the public not to approach him.
