“Quebec Court Greenlights Landmark Class Action Against Ticketmaster for Controversial Service Fees”

The Quebec Superior Court greenlights a lawsuit against Ticketmaster alleging inflated service fees on ticket sales. Judge Eleni Yiannakis ruled in favor of a full trial, potentially leading to compensatory refunds for the plaintiffs if successful.

Montreal law firm Paquette Gadler spearheads the class action, claiming that Ticketmaster’s service charges breach Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act and Civil Code. The lawsuit contends that Ticketmaster’s fee structure, tied to ticket prices rather than actual service costs, is unfair and exploitative.

Initiated on behalf of plaintiff Felipe Morales in August 2024, the lawsuit represents Quebec residents who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster for North American events since July 2021.

Ticketmaster, a global ticketing platform for concerts and sports events, remained silent following the court ruling on Monday.
