A recent atmospheric river hit British Columbia’s south coast, shattering multiple daily weather records in the Lower Mainland and Squamish on Monday.
According to 1130 NewsRadio Meteorologist Michael Kuss, the continuous rainfall since Saturday has led to impressive totals ranging from 40 to 150 millimetres at various stations in the region.
On Jan. 12, the Fraser Valley saw significant rainfall records broken, with 49.6 millimetres in Abbotsford, 89.5 millimetres in Agassiz, and 86.1 millimetres in Hope. Additionally, West Vancouver set a new daily record with 50.9 millimetres, while Squamish was drenched with 98.5 millimetres.
Kuss noted that the rainfall was accompanied by unusually warm temperatures. Early forecasts suggest that Tuesday might also break daily temperature records.
Guaranteeing his daily high-temperature forecasts for Vancouver, Kuss is part of the 1130 NewsRadio Weather Guarantee contest, where the jackpot increases by $100 each weekday with each correct guess. If the forecast misses the mark by more than 2 degrees Celsius, the jackpot is up for grabs.
