Ernie Clement’s Remarkable Baseball Journey Continues with Team USA Selection

Ernie Clement’s baseball career has been nothing short of extraordinary. From facing uncertainty with the Oakland Athletics to breaking records in the MLB postseason, Clement has proven his resilience and talent time and time again.

Adding to his list of accomplishments, the tenacious utility infielder for the Toronto Blue Jays has been chosen to represent Team USA at the upcoming World Baseball Classic, as announced by USA Baseball. The tournament is set to span from March 5 to 17, with games taking place in Miami, Houston, San Juan, and Tokyo.

Coming off a stellar postseason performance where he set a new hits record with 30 hits, surpassing the previous record, Clement showcased his prowess on the field. His contributions were vital in the Blue Jays’ journey to the World Series, culminating in a memorable game-winning run in Game 4 of the Fall Classic.

Throughout the regular season, Clement continued to shine, achieving career highs in various categories such as games played, runs, hits, and doubles. His defensive skills were also recognized, earning nominations for the American League Gold Glove award in multiple positions.

Known for his gritty play and unwavering determination, Clement has endeared himself to fans in Toronto and beyond. Despite battling injuries towards the end of the season, including a fractured finger and stitches, he never wavered in his commitment to the game.

Recently honored in his home state of New York, Clement was bestowed with a key to Monroe County, and a special day was dedicated in his honor as “Ernie Clement Day.”
