Residents in Midtown Toronto have been facing delays in their recycling pick-up for over 11 days now. The situation on Winnett Avenue has left many frustrated as trucks have been inconsistent in collecting bins. Greg Narbey shared his experience of a GFL truck only collecting his recycling and ignoring his neighbors’ bins, leaving them feeling confused and abandoned.
Neighbours have expressed their disappointment with the lack of clear communication and reliable service. Area councillor Josh Matlow criticized the current privatized recycling system, highlighting the issues with execution despite potential cost-saving benefits.
The privatized recycling program in Toronto, now managed by Circular Materials and GFL, aimed to enhance recycling services and reduce costs. However, the rollout has been marred by delays and poor coordination, leading to dissatisfaction among residents.
Premier Ford defended the transition, stating that most residents have had successful pick-ups. Despite the challenges, he remains optimistic that the issues will be resolved soon. Matlow urged Ford to address the ongoing problems or consider returning the recycling management to the City for more efficient operations.
