The owner of a landscaping and snow removal company based in Vaughan, known as Snow Pros LTD and Grass Guys, is under fire for allegedly failing to pay workers and neglecting services for some clients who have already paid.
Numerous individuals reached out to Speakers Corner, prompting an investigation. Upon meeting with former employees at an Etobicoke park, it became evident that there were widespread grievances. Janelle Lavellee, an ex-employee, expressed her disillusionment after working long hours during a December snowstorm without receiving payment, leading her to request termination.
Lavellee revealed a pattern of hiring and dismissing employees without compensation, leaving many in financial distress. Another worker, Paul Edwards, highlighted delayed payments and a sudden layoff, leaving him owed $7,000.
Adrien Bruno, a client, paid $1,000 to Snow Pros for winter services but received subpar service before the company stopped fulfilling its obligations. Former office worker, Jessica Pugliese, emphasized the distress among customers, especially the elderly, who relied on the company’s services.
The businesses in question are reportedly owned by Ryan Hunter, who cited unforeseen challenges as the cause for the company’s breakdown. Hunter pointed fingers at stolen vehicles, employee misconduct, and client payment disputes as contributing factors.
Despite Hunter’s assurance of addressing outstanding wages by selling assets, former workers remain doubtful, with Peter Mieras highlighting past payment issues. Workers have turned to the Ontario Ministry of Labour and are contemplating legal action against the company.
