“PQ’s Strategic Power Move: UN Dynamo Sandra Hernandez Joins the Fray as MNA Candidate”

The leader of the Parti Québécois (PQ), Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, revealed that Sandra Hernandez, a UN official, will be joining the party’s lineup for the upcoming provincial elections.

During a press briefing at the PQ headquarters in Montreal, St-Pierre Plamondon introduced Sandra Hernandez, a resident of Longueuil, as the party’s initial candidate for Member of the National Assembly (MNA). However, he did not disclose the specific electoral district she will be running in.

Sandra Hernandez currently holds the position of liaison officer and team leader at the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, as indicated on her LinkedIn profile. With a career spanning over 25 years, she has undertaken missions in various countries such as the U.S., Haiti, and Western Sahara within the global organization.

In other news, the recent announcement follows Quebec Premier François Legault’s declaration of intent to step down, prompting several prominent Coalition Avenir Québec members to announce their retirements from politics. St-Pierre Plamondon urged the CAQ government to convene early elections, emphasizing the PQ’s commitment to sovereignty, a stance that has consistently garnered strong support in polls over the past year.

Meanwhile, the Quebec Liberal Party is in the midst of selecting a new leader subsequent to the resignation of Pablo Rodriguez before the Christmas season, amidst internal scandals that have affected the party’s reputation.

The provincial elections are currently slated for October 2026.
