Major Traffic Alert: Full Shutdown of Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel, Charles-De Gaulle Bridge Lane Also Closed This Weekend

The Transport Ministry has announced that a substantial closure of Highway 25 in both directions, which includes the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, will take place overnight from Friday to Saturday. Moreover, a lane on the Charles-De Gaulle Bridge, part of Highway 40, will be closed from Friday night until Monday morning for necessary repair work.

For those heading towards the South Shore, Highway 25 will be completely closed from Friday night to Saturday morning, spanning from Exit 5 – R-138/ Hochelaga Street/ Sherbrooke Street to the entrance from Île Charron. Road closures will commence 30 minutes before the full shutdown, ensuring smooth traffic management.

Conversely, for individuals traveling towards Montreal, Highway 25 will experience a full closure from Exit 90 – Highway 20 West, Route 132, La Prairie/ USA, Varennes, P.E. Trudeau Airport to the entrance from Sherbrooke East Street. Similar to the South Shore route, entrances to this section will be shut down 30 minutes before the highway closure.

Additionally, starting from 9:30 p.m. on Friday, January 30, until 4 a.m. on Monday, February 2, one of the three lanes along Highway 40 will be closed in the east-west direction between Gouin East Boulevard in Montreal and Route 344 (Saint-Charles Road). Drivers should anticipate traffic congestion, with potential lane narrowing and a reduced speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour in the work zone in both directions.

Authorities emphasize that the construction area may be under police supervision, and a speed camera will be installed to ensure the safety of workers. Weather conditions or operational constraints could potentially lead to the postponement of these interventions.

Given the expected traffic congestion, motorists are encouraged to check Québec 511 for trip planning. Please note that road work schedules are subject to change due to adverse weather conditions.
