Montreal Launches Massive Snow-Removal Blitz Amidst Persistent Cold and Light Snowfall

This week in Montreal, the chilly weather and light snow are here to stay as the city embarks on its fifth snow-loading operation of the season. Following a notable snow accumulation earlier in the week, the city is gearing up for a massive effort to clear the streets.

Starting Tuesday evening, over 2,500 snow removal vehicles and nearly 3,000 workers will spread out across Montreal’s extensive network of 11,000 kilometers of streets to tackle the snow removal task. This operation is anticipated to take several days to complete.

Initially facing delays due to staffing challenges, city officials made a U-turn on Monday evening as snowfall exceeded expectations. Residents are urged to cooperate by following parking restrictions and other guidelines from their boroughs to facilitate the snow removal process.

The weather forecast for today includes overcast skies with light snow expected around noon. Temperatures are set to peak at minus–11 Celsius, with wind chill making it feel even colder at minus–25 C in the morning and minus–18 C in the afternoon. The light snow will gradually subside in the evening, giving way to clear skies overnight as temperatures drop to minus–18 C.

Wednesday will see a mix of sun and clouds, accompanied by westward winds gaining strength in the morning and a high near minus–11 C. The cold snap will persist through the week, with daytime temperatures hovering between minus–12 C and minus–13 C, and nighttime lows occasionally plunging to minus–18 C.

As the weekend approaches, more sunshine is anticipated. Saturday is expected to be sunny with a high near minus–9 C, while Sunday will continue the trend with sunny skies and temperatures edging closer to minus–7 C.
