An elderly woman, Sheila Padmore, tragically passed away in the hospital following a distressing incident at her home in Notre-Dame-de-Grace. Padmore, 87, was discovered during a prolonged power outage, prompting authorities to conduct a wellness check at her residence where she lived with her husband.
Emergency medical services reported that Padmore was swiftly taken to the hospital in critical condition. Upon arrival at the Glen Site hospital, it was revealed that her body temperature had plummeted to 22 degrees Celsius, as recounted by their concerned neighbor Dawn Lambing, who assisted in getting Padmore’s husband to the hospital and delivering the devastating news of her passing.
The Quebec coroner’s office has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Padmore’s death.
In a related incident, Kevin, another neighbor of Padmore, shared that upon returning home during the power outage, he noticed possible candlelight emanating from the Padmores’ apartment. Concerned by the lack of response, Kevin sought help from law enforcement officers, ultimately leading to the discovery of the distressing situation.
Tragically, this event marked the second fatality linked to the recent power outage. Miriam Foox, 66, was also found deceased during a wellness check in Montreal West on the same evening. The Quebec coroner’s office has commenced an inquiry into Foox’s death as well.
Despite these distressing events, the Quebec Ministry of Health and the Quebec Ministry for Seniors and Caregivers, under the stewardship of Minister Sonia Bélanger, have declined to provide comments on the incidents.
