Residents of Montreal gathered on Wednesday evening to pay tribute to the victims of the tragic 2017 Quebec City mosque attack, which remains one of the darkest chapters in Canadian history. It has been nine years since the devastating act of violence that targeted Muslims in the country.
The Canadian Muslim Forum and the Muslim Association of Canada organized a public commemoration, bringing together the local community in a show of remembrance and solidarity.
The event was a solemn occasion to honor the memory of the six Muslim men who lost their lives during the mosque shooting on January 29, 2017. The gunman’s attack took place just before 8 p.m., injuring several other worshippers in addition to the fatalities.
Held at the Canadian Institute of Islamic Civilization on Belmont Street, Montrealers gathered to reflect, hear speeches, and pay their respects to the victims of the tragic incident.
The commemoration served as a heartfelt reminder to keep the memory of the victims alive, emphasizing values of compassion, dignity, and peace while uniting in the face of adversity.
Throughout the event, posters carrying messages like “Together we fight hate. Together we stand for peace” were prominently displayed, along with banners bearing the names of the victims.
