Embrace Your Conservative Identity, Quebecers Urged
Stéphane Lachance, leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) and the opposition at Quebec City Hall, delivered a powerful message on Saturday at the PCQ convention in Lac-Delage near Quebec City. He encouraged Quebecers to proudly embrace their conservative beliefs, emphasizing that there is no shame in advocating for common sense in society.
Addressing around 400 attendees, Lachance urged them to hold their heads high and shift any feelings of embarrassment to those who oppose conservative values. Anne Casabonne, a former PCQ candidate, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the party’s growing support in recent polls.
The convention aimed to outline the party’s platform for the upcoming 2026 election campaign. Activists voted to make significant changes, including abolishing the Economic Development Fund, restructuring the Treasury Board for greater efficiency, and reforming Investissement Québec to reduce political influence.
The Conservatives also took a strong stance on environmental policies, voting to eliminate the carbon exchange and the Green Fund, citing Quebec’s minimal global greenhouse gas emissions and the lack of impact from previous spending.
While some proposals were adopted, such as allowing ministries to retain unspent funds and conducting strategic spending reviews, others, like publishing simplified financial information, were rejected to avoid potential government misinformation.
Despite polling predictions showing the Conservatives making gains in the next election, a potential leadership change in the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) could shift the political landscape, impacting the PCQ’s standing.
