Ontario Provincial Police are currently looking into the passing of an inmate at the Bath Institution, situated west of Kingston.
According to reports, a 49-year-old prisoner was found in a critical medical state inside his cell just before 10 a.m. on January 29. Following this discovery, he was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his condition two days later.
The specific cause of the inmate’s demise remains unknown at this time, pending further investigation and a postmortem examination.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the deceased prisoner, and as of now, there has been no official statement from Corrections Canada representatives.
The investigation into the incident is being spearheaded by the OPP-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad, in close collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Forensic Pathology Service, and Correctional Service of Canada. The OPP Forensic Identification Service is also providing support in the investigation.
