The Toronto Raptors clinched a 107-100 victory against the struggling Utah Jazz in a thrilling NBA showdown on Sunday. R.J. Barrett led the charge with 21 points, while Sandro Mamukelashvili made a significant impact off the bench with 20 points.
In a game marked by intense competition, Scottie Barnes, fresh off his second NBA All-Star Game selection, showcased his skills with 14 points and nine rebounds. However, he briefly left the game due to a foot injury, only to return and contribute crucial plays towards the end.
Lauri Markkanen stood out for the Jazz with a stellar performance, scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to break their losing streak, which extended to six games.
Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickley added firepower for the Raptors with 19 and 17 points respectively. In response, Isaiah Collier and Jusuf Nurkic put up strong numbers for the Jazz.
Despite trailing at halftime, the Raptors rallied in the final quarter to secure the win in a back-and-forth game that saw multiple lead changes and ties.
Both teams showed solidarity on the first day of Black History Month by wearing T-shirts honoring the pioneers who broke the NBA color barrier in the 1950-51 season.
With this win, the Raptors matched their previous season’s win total with 31 games left to play. Up next, they will face the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Wednesday.
