In a concerning incident that unfolded in Montreal’s Saint-Michel neighborhood in the early hours of Monday morning, a woman now finds herself in critical condition at a local hospital following a fire at a duplex.
Shortly after midnight, emergency services swiftly responded to reports of a fire at a duplex situated on 6th Ave., close to Émile-Journault Ave. Upon arrival, Montreal Fire Department personnel discovered an unconscious individual in the basement and promptly administered life-saving CPR.
The victim was promptly taken to the hospital, where medical professionals assessed her condition as critical yet stable.
Preliminary investigations by the Montreal Police Service indicate that the fire likely originated in the basement apartment.
While the exact cause remains uncertain, Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils indicated that all signs point to the fire being accidental.
Given the injury sustained by one individual, the case has been handed over to the Montreal police arson squad for further examination.
