Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) Seeks $190 Million for Pavilion Renovations and Community Hub
In a bid to revamp its facilities and enhance the Quartier Latin neighborhood in downtown Montreal, the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) is calling upon the Quebec government for a significant investment of $190 million. This funding would primarily be allocated towards the renovation of three key pavilions – Hubert-Aquin, Thérèse-Casgrain, and Paul-Gérin-Lajoie – situated in the heart of the bustling area.
One of the highlights of the proposed project is the transformation of the university’s library, making it easily accessible from the street. Additionally, a new community hub called “La Maison du Quartier Latin” is planned to be established at the intersection of Sainte-Catherine Street East and Saint-Denis. This hub aims to provide a range of cultural and educational services to the local residents.
Moreover, the funds would support the modernization of the Paul-Gérin-Lajoie pavilion, which is dedicated to training future educators. The university envisions creating state-of-the-art laboratories to shape the classrooms of tomorrow and cater to the needs of young learners.
UQAM is optimistic that these renovations will not only benefit its students but also play a vital role in the revitalization of the Quartier Latin, fostering a more inclusive and secure environment for all Montrealers. The university’s initiative aligns with its vision to contribute to a vibrant and thriving downtown community.
