Young Gifted and Rising, an empowering project led by the West Island Black Community Association, is shining the spotlight on youth leaders. These young individuals are not only being recognized for their current achievements but are also being equipped for a bright future.
Meet Adriana Jackson, a remarkable 13-year-old entrepreneur and philanthropist who is already making a significant impact. Joan Lee, the president of WIBCA, emphasizes the importance of investing in the voices of young leaders like Adriana, highlighting the essential role they play in shaping the future.
Despite facing challenges due to generalized epilepsy, Adriana remains resilient and determined. In 2020, amidst the pandemic, she launched an online boutique named Boutique Winnie and Moe, where she shares her inspiring journey.
Through her online platform, Adriana opens up about her struggles with chronic pain, fatigue, and anxiety, shedding light on the unseen battles she faces daily. Despite these obstacles, she remains steadfast in pursuing her dreams and making a positive difference.
Inspired by her grandparents’ wisdom and heritage from Pakistan and Barbados, Adriana’s boutique offers a range of products such as hair ties and bow ties. She credits her grandparents for instilling in her the belief that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to.
Adriana’s commitment to social causes was evident during the Black Lives Matter protests when she donated a portion of her boutique’s proceeds to WIBCA. In recognition of her contributions, WIBCA is honoring Adriana at the upcoming Young, Gifted & Rising event at the Gerry-Robertson Community Center in Pierrefonds.
WIBCA’s focus on youth empowerment is underscored by programs like the Black Girls Gather Book Club, Masai Boys program, and STEM Robotics initiative, which aim to support and encourage young individuals throughout the year.
Adriana hopes that her story will inspire other young people to pursue their dreams and aspirations, showing them that with determination and resilience, anything is possible.
