Suspect in Lapu-Lapu Day Incident Set for Dramatic First Court Appearance in British Columbia

Adam Kai-Ji Lo, the man accused of driving an SUV into a crowd at a Filipino street festival last spring, is set to appear in BC Supreme Court in Vancouver today at 2 p.m. Lo is facing a total of 42 criminal charges following the tragic events at the Lapu-Lapu Day festival in April 2025, including 11 counts of second-degree murder and 31 counts of attempted murder. After being found fit to stand trial in September, the case was transferred to the higher court on Jan. 15. Meanwhile, some victims of the attack have filed a proposed class-action civil lawsuit, alleging that Lo, diagnosed with schizophrenia prior to the incident, had requested a reduction in his antipsychotic medication despite his deteriorating mental health.
