The recent opening of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project has garnered mixed reactions from the public. While the Ford government has decided against a public inquiry into the project, Metrolinx’s president and CEO, Michael Lindsay, has taken the opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced during the two-decade-long construction process.
Lindsay expressed his gratitude towards transit staff and the community for their patience during the prolonged construction period. He acknowledged the disruptions caused to residents, businesses, and riders but also highlighted the transformative impact the new line is expected to have on the city of Toronto.
Despite the positive outlook, Lindsay also addressed areas that require improvement and the unforeseen challenges faced during the construction phase. He emphasized the need to balance contractual obligations with addressing unexpected issues to ensure the project’s success.
The Line 5 Eglinton experienced a successful soft-launch with an estimated 80,000 riders, signaling a positive start for the project. Lindsay praised the line’s connectivity and its potential to enhance Toronto’s transportation network.
