Temporary classroom trailers are being brought in for students in Tumbler Ridge following a recent tragedy, as announced by the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
In response to the devastating events of last week, School District No. 59 confirmed that students will not be returning to the high school building where the majority of the victims were discovered after the incident.
The initial phase will see the arrival of bathroom trailers on Monday, followed by single-wide classroom trailers on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a total of 14 units expected. Plans are also in motion to establish a more permanent space using larger, double-wide trailers in the near future.
These trailers will be placed on the grounds of Tumbler Ridge Elementary School, providing a familiar environment for the students during this challenging time.
Chad Anderson, Peace River South School Board chair, emphasized the importance of maintaining routine and community connections during such a difficult period. The school district is committed to keeping the school community, families, and the public informed about the upcoming return to classes, prioritizing the safety and well-being of everyone involved.
While a specific date for resuming classes has not been determined, the ministry has outlined the necessary steps to prepare the trailers for student use, including setting up water and heating systems and furnishing the units.
Regular updates will be provided by the school district and province to ensure that parents, students, and staff are kept informed throughout the process.
