During his murder trial in Laval, Quebec, Kamaljit Arora, who tragically drowned his two children in October 2022, testified that he has no memory of that fateful day. Speaking in his defense for the second day, Arora explained that he had consumed fentanyl and cannot recollect the events that led to the drowning of his 13-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son in their Laval residence.
Arora, aged 49, recounted waking up restrained in a hospital weeks after the incident. While he confessed to causing the deaths of his children, he maintains a not guilty plea for two counts of first-degree murder, as well as charges related to his older daughter’s attempted murder and the strangulation of his ex-wife.
To protect the privacy of the young victims, a publication ban was imposed on their names. The Crown, after concluding its evidence, aims to establish that Arora’s actions were premeditated.
Arora shared with the jury his struggle with mental health issues dating back to 2020, notably severe depression. He disclosed that he had bought what he believed to be fentanyl before the tragic events, intending to use it for suicide.
