Mandelson’s Lobbying Empire Crumbles Amid Epstein Scandal Fallout

Global Consultancy Firm Founded by Ex-UK Ambassador Peter Mandelson Faces Financial Crisis Amid Epstein Scandal

Global Counsel, the consultancy firm co-founded by former UK Ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, has announced its financial collapse in the aftermath of the controversy surrounding his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. With operations halted, the firm is laying off approximately 80 employees in the UK as clients sever ties due to revelations about Mandelson’s close relationship with Epstein.

Mandelson, who established Global Counsel in 2010 after the Labour Party lost power, stepped down from the board in 2024 and divested his shares to shield the company from the scandal. Interpath, a consulting company, has been appointed as administrators to evaluate the firm’s future prospects and assets.

Amidst the turmoil, there are allegations that Mandelson may have shared sensitive government information with Epstein in 2009, raising concerns about his conduct during his tenure in the Labour government. Investigations have also uncovered financial transactions between Epstein and accounts associated with Mandelson, though Mandelson has disputed the authenticity of the documents.

The UK police have initiated an inquiry into Mandelson’s activities, focusing on potential misconduct in public office. Despite the scrutiny, Mandelson has not been accused of any sexual crimes. The unfolding scandal has also brought attention to the controversial career of Mandelson, with past resignations from Tony Blair’s government adding to the cloud of suspicion.

The recent turn of events has further strained the relationship between Mandelson and top UK officials, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who previously faced criticism over his decision to appoint Mandelson to a high-profile diplomatic role. Mandelson’s dismissal last year following revelations of his continued friendship with Epstein post-conviction stirred further controversy.

As the government prepares to release files related to the vetting process, the hope is to clarify the situation surrounding Starmer’s judgment in appointing Mandelson and potentially address any misinformation propagated by Mandelson.
