Vancouver park board approves zipline and tree canopy walk in Queen Elizabeth Park

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation has approved proposals for two new attractions in Queen Elizabeth Park.

In a written statement after the board met Monday night, commissioners say that a new tree canopy walkway and zipline will be installed in the park.

The canopy walk is set to be 300 metres long, while the zipline will swing its users 120 metres across the park.

A previous zipline in the park was decommissioned in 2015.

Commissioners add that the Vancouver-based company Greenheart will design and build the new attractions, which will also include a visitor centre.

Additionally, the park board plans a seasonal tour bus service connecting Queen Elizabeth Park and VanDusen Botanical Garden with Granville Island.

If everything goes according to plan, the attractions are set to open this summer.

Prices will be between $16 and $20 per person and will also be included as part of the Park Board’s Leisure Access Program.

“These experiences will not only add to the thrill of visiting the park, but they will also offer new viewpoints for us to enjoy nature,” said park board chair Tom Digby.

“We are continuing to deliver on our commitment to enhancing our parks with these additions.”

Commissioners hope to increase revenue with the new attractions.
