Police in Surrey say they pulled more than two dozen drivers off the road for excessive speeding in just four days.
From March 6 to March 9, traffic enforcement officers with the Surrey Police Service (SPS) charged 25 drivers with excessive speeding and impounded their vehicles.
SPS media liaison Ian MacDonald says the numbers are shocking, especially because most of those charged were new drivers.

“It’s quite alarming and concerning and obviously an indication that our road safety section must continue monitoring and charging drivers,” he said.
Four vehicles were caught doing more than double the posted limit, and 12 were travelling faster than the highest legal limit in Canada, which is 120 km/hr and found on the Coquihalla Highway.
One driver, who was observed going in excess of 180 km/hour in an 80 km/hour zone, did not have insurance. Another, who was doing 139 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone, didn’t have a licence at all.
MacDonald says the drivers were fined, but he says something else will hurt more.
“Certainly when you start to impound potentially the father’s car or the mother’s car, or even the youth’s car, I think that that has more of an impact than the fine itself,” he said.
