Door issues prompt security measures at police headquarters in Laval

City officials have confirmed ongoing efforts to address mechanical issues affecting an employee entrance at the West Gendarmerie Station, which began experiencing malfunctions months after the building opened.

The problems, attributed to heavy use and strong winds, prompted several repair attempts in collaboration with the original installer and later by municipal teams. While initial interventions were deemed more cost-effective than a full replacement, recent evaluations concluded that replacing the door is now unavoidable. Installation of a new door is expected shortly.

In the interim, the City has deployed a full-time security guard since early February to maintain safety and control access to the premises. The measure, part of a broader contracted security service, has cost $21,289 to date.

Officials acknowledged two incidents in March in which individuals entered the station while a guard failed to properly carry out duties. The guard involved has since been replaced, and no further issues have been reported. The City is also working with the security firm to strengthen oversight and prevent recurrence.

Despite these isolated events, the City maintains that current security measures are effective and that reports of frequent unauthorized access do not reflect the reality on site.
