Montreal-area transit fares set to rise 3% starting July 1

Public transit fares across the Greater Montreal Area will increase by an average of three per cent beginning July 1, under a new fare schedule announced by the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain.

The agency says the increase meets the minimum threshold set out in its funding agreement, while aiming to balance affordability for riders with the long-term sustainability of the network.

Most fares will see modest increases, including monthly passes, which will rise by $5.50 at the regular rate and $3.25 for discounted users. Monthly bus passes will also increase by $4.75 for regular riders and $3.00 at the reduced rate.

However, there will be no change to single fares, including one- and two-trip bus tickets and all-mode fares.

The ARTM is also phasing out several transitional fare options tied to the REM on the South Shore. As of July 1, riders will need to purchase standard all-mode fares for trips involving both the REM and bus networks.

Officials say the changes are intended to limit the financial impact on users while maintaining service quality and financial stability.
