The Lion’s Bay Search and Rescue (SAR) has rescued a 17-year-old hiker from the West Lion viewpoint in North Vancouver after he sustained a serious leg injury.
According to rescuers, the teenager was descending from the lookout, just past Harvey Creek, when he wounded his leg by jumping from a five-foot rock.
He landed “awkwardly” and suffered a “non-weight-bearing lower leg injury.”
Since Lions Bay SAR volunteers weren’t able to carry the person down due to his injury, the North Shore Rescue team assisted with a helicopter, performing a hoist extraction.
“Lions Bay SAR packaged the subject and stretchered him down trail to a more favourable area,” the volunteers said.
After the 17-year-old was successfully hoisted, he was transported to the hospital by the BC Ambulance Services (BCEHS).
