Pedestrian strike in Surrey sending 79-year-old man to hospital

A 79-year-old man was transported to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Surrey on Monday.

According to Ian MacDonald, media liaison person with the Surrey Police Service, the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. near the intersection of King George Boulevard and 79 Avenue.

The victim is in stable condition.

“Things looked worse initially. And we are collectively relieved to hear mostly positive news back from the hospital,” MacDonald said.

Police add that the driver of the vehicle, a white Toyota minivan, remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.

With investigators on scene, the northbound lanes between King George Boulevard and 79 Avenue were closed until police reopened one lane at 5:20 p.m.

Drivers are advised to use alternative routes.
