A man in his fifties died Friday evening following a collision near Matchi-Manitou, in the Vallée-de-l’Or, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., emergency services were called to an off-road road near Highway 117. The collision involved a side-by-side vehicle.
“The driver, a man in his fifties, was transferred to a hospital where, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead,” said Frédéric Deshaies, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
“For a reason that remains to be explained, the driver would have lost control of his machine before colliding with a tree,” he explained.
An SQ collision investigator went to the scene to analyze the scene and better understand the causes and circumstances that caused the crash.
