Carolina Hurricanes dominated the first period with three quick goals towards the end of the first period as Montreal Canadiens missed all opportunities to score.
Jordan Staal doubled Carolina’s lead with less than four minutes remaining in the first period. The Hurricanes’ captain, positioned in front of the net, redirected a pass from K’Andre Miller past Jakub Dobes.
Jackson Blake then fed a nice pass to Logan Stankoven, who made it 3-0 with 2:14 left in the first period.
