The Abbotsford Police Department (Abby PD) says it has arrested a 37-year-old man on Monday who is the suspect in connection with an incident involving a stolen vehicle.
Police made the arrest at the suspect’s residence near the intersection of 273 Street and 32 Avenue in Aldergrove.
“Additional resources were deployed to help ensure the arrest was carried out safely,” said Sgt. Paul Walker in a written message to CityNews.
“Air 1 and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service also assisted in the operation. After a short time, the man was arrested without incident.”
The police are, among others, recommending charges of Assaulting a Peace Officer and Flight from Police in response to an incident that occurred on May 25 when the Abby PD tried to arrest the person the first time.
That day, officers observed the man driving a vehicle that he allegedly stole.
When they followed the vehicle and attempted to arrest the suspect, he “reversed into a police vehicle and fled the scene.”
“No pursuit was initiated, as officers had already confirmed the suspect’s identity. The police vehicle sustained minor damage,” Walker added.
The suspect is held in custody and is also facing potential charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Driving While Suspended, and Driving While Prohibited.
