Quebec reaches tentative agreement with foster care providers’ union

After several months of negotiations, a tentative agreement has been reached with the Association démocratique des ressources à l’enfance du Québec (ADREQ) and the Association démocratique des ressources à l’adulte du Québec (ADRAQ).

This five-year agreement, retroactive to 2023, covers more than 3,800 foster care providers, the office of Treasury Board Chair France-Élaine Duranceau announced on Saturday.

“It will improve their working conditions, provide them with greater support, and better meet the evolving needs of vulnerable individuals,” the office stated.

The Centrale des syndicats démocratiques (CSD), to which the associations are affiliated, noted that several impasses had occurred over the financial terms.

“A legal action has also been filed to assert the rights of the workers and maintain pressure on the government,” the CSD emphasized in a press release.

Duranceau’s office stated that the details of the agreement will remain confidential until members have voted on the content.

The CSD confirmed that the tentative agreement will soon be presented to members at general assemblies.

It assured that it includes “significant gains and regulatory advances.”
