A dog owner in Port Moody is facing a criminal charge after two dogs allegedly mauled a woman in May, leaving her with serious and life-altering injuries.
The attack happened on May 20 in the Moody Centre area, where two large dogs attacked a woman, according to the Port Moody Police.
City officials say the dogs had previously been designated as aggressive and were required to wear muzzles. However, police allege the animals were not muzzled at the time of the attack.
Port Moody police said officers interviewed more than a dozen witnesses and collected evidence before forwarding a report to Crown counsel for charge assessment.
The BC Prosecution Service has now approved a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm against the dogs’ owner.
Police say the victim continues to recover from the injuries she suffered during the attack.
According to Stephen Cote-Rolvink, manager of building and bylaw enforcement for Port Moody, both dogs were euthanized.
