Have you seen this dessert that’s gone viral on social media?
Well, the internet has popularly called it a “dot cake,” and now that they are in high demand, the bakery Géraldine gâteau et café in Longueuil on Montreal’s South Shore has an employee making them full-time.
“It’s special,” said Amélie Lavoie, co-founder of Géraldine. “It’s a product that surprised me.”
“We’re very happy because we had the Canadiens a few weeks ago, bringing in some customers, and when they ended their series, we thought it was going to go down,” she explained. “But then the dot cake came, and it’s crazy again.”
Made popular on TikTok, the cake originates from New York bakeries and is loved for its ASMR-friendly crunch.
The team in Longueuil now sells over 100 of these per day.

“It’s a lot of logistics and reorganization because we’re a small business,” said Lavoie. “There’s only 12 of us here. So, we just have to all work together to make it happen.”
“And we always do,” she added. “We always do.”
Served in a cup, it’s made up of layers of fluffy cake and frosting.
It’s then topped with crunchy nonpareil sprinkles.
While the desserts are a hit, Lavoie told CityNews she was hesitant to try them.
“When I saw this coming on TikTok, I said, ‘oh, I’m not going into it because of the packaging.’ But then one night I was thinking and it was coming on so strong. I said, ‘okay, let’s try it.’ So we made one and when I got home, I ate it like eight hours after and I said, ‘okay, there’s something there.’ There’s something with the crunchiness,” she explained. “There’s something with all the flavours staying together in the closed environments.”

Now Lavoie is set to tour with their dot cakes – which come in over eight flavours.
Bringing them to Joliette, Sherbrooke, and more…for all to give this viral trend a try.
