Collision with a moose on the A-40 in Champlain, Mauricie: death of the driver

A man in his sixties lost his life after his vehicle collided with a moose in Champlain, in the Mauricie region.

Emergency services were notified late Saturday night, around 10 p.m., of the collision that occurred at kilometre 221 of Highway 40, near Sainte-Geneviève-de-Batiscan.

“The driver, a man in his sixties from the Quebec City area, was traveling westbound when he collided with the animal. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead,” said Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

There was also an adult passenger in the vehicle, but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

“An investigation took place during the night to determine the exact causes and circumstances surrounding this sad event,” said the SQ spokesperson.

The investigation is ongoing.
