“Maple Ridge School Goes on Lockdown After Police Respond to Weapon Threat”

A high school in Maple Ridge was briefly placed under a ‘Hold and Secure’ status on Thursday morning following reports of a possible weapon incident in the vicinity, according to authorities.

Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a call around 11:15 a.m. regarding an individual allegedly carrying a weapon near Thomas Haney Secondary School.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered a 16-year-old individual in possession of an imitation firearm. The youth was subsequently apprehended by the RCMP.

In a communication addressed to parents of students attending the high school, the Maple Ridge School District informed them that a report had been received indicating a student might have had a weapon on school grounds. School staff promptly implemented safety measures by initiating a Hold and Secure protocol, as the student in question had already left the premises.

The Hold and Secure status was in place for approximately half an hour until the RCMP determined it was safe to lift the precautionary measure.
