A tragic incident took place on Monday evening in Carleton-sur-Mer, Gaspésie, as a five-year-old boy met with a fatal accident after being hit by a heavy truck.
The heartbreaking event unfolded around 5 p.m. on private property close to Route de l’Église, as confirmed by Frédéric Deshaies, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
According to reports, the truck was exiting the property to join a public road when it collided with the child, who was riding a small toy-style ATV.
Tragically, the young boy was declared deceased at the scene of the accident.
Following the incident, the truck driver, a man in his 50s, was questioned by investigators from the major crimes division.
Deshaies stated, “At this point in the investigation, there is no evidence to suggest the involvement of alcohol or drugs.”
To assist with the inquiry, an accident reconstructionist was brought to the site to aid investigators in conducting a detailed analysis.
