“Career College Halts Classes as OSAP Freeze Shakes Student Funding Foundations!”

Trillium College, a prominent educational institution with campuses across Ontario, has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend its academic operations. This action was taken in response to a province-wide suspension of student financial assistance for private post-secondary institutions.

With campuses located in St. Catharines, Kingston, Oshawa, Sudbury, and Cobourg, Trillium College notified its students that both classroom and online instruction have been put on hold starting last Friday. The decision follows a recent announcement by Colleges and Universities Minister Nolan Quinn, who revealed that payments from the Ontario Student Assistance Program to career colleges and other private post-secondary institutions have been halted pending an audit.

Career Colleges Ontario has raised concerns to the government regarding possible irregularities in OSAP funding at certain institutions. Minister Quinn’s office has cited “systemic issues” as the reason behind the suspension of financial aid.

While specific colleges under suspicion have not been named by Quinn, Trillium College campuses were not among those previously denied OSAP eligibility earlier this year. Trillium College explained that the temporary pause in academic activities is crucial as operating without a sustainable funding solution would jeopardize the timely completion of student programs.
